Case Study: Creative Movement & Circus for the ASN Community

The Challenge

Many people within the ASN community face significant barriers to accessing physical activity, creative arts and social opportunities. Traditional sports or activity settings are not always designed with accessibility, sensory needs or communication differences in mind.

Families and support organisations often struggle to find activities that are genuinely inclusive, adaptable and centred around individual needs rather than limitations.

The Project

Funded by the Renfrewshire Council and the Cultural Organisations fund, we are working in partnership with local organisations to deliver tailored workshops for children, young people and adults with a wide range of additional support needs.

The project uses circus, movement and creative play to support participants with physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities and neurodivergence, creating inclusive spaces where people can explore movement, build confidence and experience achievement in ways that work for them.

The Impact

In the first year of the project, participants have engaged in regular creative movement sessions that support physical confidence, communication, coordination and wellbeing.

Partner organisations and support staff have reported positive social interaction and peer connection by the participants and have recognised the welcoming environment where individuals feel included and supported and activities that can be adapted successfully for a wide range of needs

Participants have demonstrated growing confidence in trying new activities, improved coordination and body awareness and a real sense of achievement through accessible challenge and movement

This was fabulous to see our adults keep involved in all the different activities. The pleasure on their faces and pride they have in themselves was fantastic to watch. I love seeing my boy included in all this exercise.
